Teachers Urge 5-Day Work Week at Schools

The Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations has urged the government to introduce a five-day work week system at schools. The move is in line with the government’s plan to expand the system to small businesses of 20 employees or less as of July.

The federation said Friday that city and provincial education offices adopted the system in 2005, but schools still operate biweekly on Saturdays.

The federation has made the call since 2000, but the Education Ministry has delayed the introduction of the system, citing a potential increase of burden for parents and the lack of educational programs to fill Saturdays.
