'Poetry' Wins Best Director, Best Screenplay at Asian Film Fest

The South Korean film "Poetry" by Lee Chang-dong won the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards at the fifth Asian Film Awards, which ended on Monday in Hong Kong.

Lee won Best Director, beating out other fellow Korean, Japanese and Chinese directors.

The film also won the Best Screenplay honor over its rivals - the Hong Kong romantic comedy "Love in a Puff" and the South Korean and Hong Kong joint production "Reign of Assassins," starring Korean actor Jeong Wu-seong.

Poetry had won Best Screenplay at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Lee Chang-dong also won the Best Picture and Best Director awards for his movie "Secret Sunshine" at the 2008 Asian Film Awards.

Meanwhile, Ha Jeong-wu won the Best Actor title with the film "Yellow Sea" and Yun Yeo-jeong won Best Supporting Actress for her role in "The Housemaid" at this year’s awards ceremony.
