North Korean diplomats were caught attempting to smuggle Cuban cigars into Brazil.

The South Korean Consulate General in Sao Paulo said Sunday that two North Korean diplomats, who left Panama on September 27, were caught during a clearance process at the Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo.

The Brazilian customs authorities said the North Korean diplomats were carrying around three-thousand-800 Cuban cigars of various brands.

The local customs authorities said they confiscated the cigars, but released the North Korean officials, after informing the Brazilian foreign ministry.

In a similar case in September 2010, North Korean diplomats were caught at the Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, smuggling fishery products.
