Radio Free Asia(RFA) reported Friday that a North Korean defector is receiving a doctorate degree in nuclear physics in the United States.
Joseph Han appeared on the nonprofit international broadcaster and said he's receiving the degree at Texas A&M University next month, and displayed proof of his achievement.
Regarding the topic of his doctorate thesis, Han said that he created a model to explain how the subatomic particle hadron is formed during the Big Bang, in a bid to shed light on the origin of the universe.
He said that he entered into a science high school in North Korea with dreams to become a scientist. He added that he always longed to study at a prestigious foreign university such as in Moscow or Beijing.
He expressed wishes to serve as a researcher or professor in the future and eventually teach North Korean students and spread Western democracy in the reclusive regime.
Han graduated from a university in South Korea and went to the U.S. seven years ago.
