A recent survey shows that an increased number of South Koreans oppose granting refugee status to hundreds of Yemeni asylum-seekers who arrived on Korea's Jeju Island this year under its no-visa program.

In its survey of 500 adults nationwide Wednesday, pollster Realmeter found 53-point-four percent are against granting refugee status to the Yemenis, up four-point-three percentage points from a survey conducted two weeks ago.

The number of those in favor dropped one-point-six percentage points to 37-point-four percent. Roughly nine percent were undecided.

While opponents outnumbered supporters by a margin of 16 percent, opposition grew across most regions and social groups in the nation.

Commissioned by local broadcaster TBS, the latest survey had a confidence level of 95 percent and a margin of error of plus or minus four-point-four percentage points.
