The unified Korean women's basketball team defeated host Indonesia 108-40 in its first preliminary match at the 2018 Asian Games on Wednesday.

The team, comprising three North Koreans and two South Koreans, dominated the Group A match in Jakarta to secure the first win for a joint Korean basketball team at a major international sporting event.

North Korean player Ro Suk-yong was the team’s standout performer, as she scored a game-high total of 22 points.

Although the Asian Games does not officially begin until Saturday, the basketball, football, and handball competitions have already begun due to their long schedules.

Basketball is one of three sports in which the Koreas are fielding joint squads at the Asian Games, along with rowing and canoeing.

South Korea is the defending Asian Games champion in women's basketball.
