South Korea slipped one notch to 12th last year in the global rankings of gross domestic product(GDP), while it jumped over ten places in terms of gross national income(GNI).

According to data by the World Bank on Thursday, South Korea's GDP reached one-point-53 trillion dollars last year.

The country's GDP ranking has fluctuated over the years, as it rose to tenth in 2005 before slipping to 15th in 2008. It then climbed to eleventh in 2015 and 2016 but fell back to 12th last year.

The United States topped the GDP list, followed by China, Japan, Germany, Britain, India and France.

In terms of GNI, South Korea jumped 14 notches to 31st last year, as its per capita GNI came to 28-thousand-380 dollars.

The country also ranked 31st in terms of GNI per capita at purchasing power parity, which takes into account price differences between countries and is thought to better reflect people's living standards.
