The leader of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party(LKP) said that he has proposed to President Moon Jae-in that he withdraw his plan to wind up the country’s nuclear-centered energy policy.
Floor Leader Kim Sung-tae of the LKP made the proposal Thursday during a lunch meeting between Moon and the floor leaders of the five major parties held at the presidential office earlier in the day.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kim said that he told the president that it is ridiculous for the government to try to sell nuclear reactors to Saudi Arabia while suspending the domestic construction of nuclear reactors.
He argued that the president will help ensure the nation’s nuclear prowess will be recognized internationally by withdrawing from the plan.
Kim said that he also called for the thorough investigation into the shipments of North Korean coal to South Korea.
He said he also demanded “sincere answers” from the president regarding the ongoing special investigation into the “druking” online opinion rigging scandal involving presidential aides, but the president declined to comment on it.
