North Korea's state media has called for U.S. President Donald Trump to make a decisive move on declaring a formal end to the Korean War, saying it is nothing more than a political declaration.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, said Saturday that North Korea-U.S. relations can't be victimized by domestic political wrangling in Washington.

The article said political opponents in Washington are hampering efforts to adopt the war-ending declaration that President Trump has promised.

The paper also argued that Trump was able to successfully hold the Singapore summit with North Korea because he was not swayed by critics and did not blindly listen to his aides but acted on his own volition.

The North noted that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the North last month and recent high-level talks between the two sides bore little fruit due to the adverse effect of political opposition in the U.S.

It urged Pompeo to exercise wisdom and negotiation skills to carry out Trump's determination and fend off foolish claims made by critics.
