Anchor: The government plans to build four to five new cities around the Seoul metropolitan area to curb soaring home prices. That's part of its plan to supply 300-thousand homes in the capital region. As a first step, the approximate location of 35-thousand homes was revealed on Friday.
Our Bae Joo-yon has more.

Report: The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Friday that the government will supply 35-thousand public homes at 17 locations in Seoul and surrounding regions to keep rising home prices in check.

The ministry released eleven idle sites in Seoul, one in Incheon and five in Gyeonggi Province to build and supply the homes from 2021. Two of the sites in the capital have been revealed, but nine are still under wraps and will be announced by Seoul city at a later date.

The plan is part of the government's aim to supply a total of 300-thousand public homes in the capital region.

The government will release plans in phases by the end of June for the remaining 265-thousand homes.

Among those homes, around 200-thousand will be built in four or five new cities encompassing more than three million square meters. The new developments will be situated between Seoul and existing satellite cities such as Bundang and Ilsan. The remaining 65-thousand homes will be created on smaller-sized plots.

Thirty-five percent of the 300-thousand homes that will be supplied will be in the form of public rental housing. The homes will be subject to tighter reselling rules and residential obligations.

Out of the 300-thousand homes, half are expected to be supplied before 2025 and the other half after 2025.
