Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon has vowed to put top priority on fundamentally resolving the issue of separated families in the implementation of agreements from the latest inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang.
The minister spoke at a meeting with separated family members held at Imjingak Pavilion in Paju, Gyeonggi Province near the border on Monday.
He said the family reunion issue can no longer be delayed for both Koreas.
Cho noted the two Koreas agreed during the recent summit to open a permanent reunion center and enable video correspondence between families across the border.
He promised swift follow-up discussions with North Korea to quickly implement the agreements.
He also pledged to seek various ways for separated families to be informed of the whereabouts their North Korean relatives so they can visit their hometowns in the North.
The minister vowed all-out policy efforts to improve on one-off reunion events.
