Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon has announced he will completely shut down all dog slaughterhouses in the capital.

After watching "Underdog," the animated film about abandoned dogs on Saturday, Park said most of the dog slaughterhouses in Seoul have already closed down through various measures with only one or two remaining.

The mayor said he will seek ways to pressure the remaining operators to close since the city government cannot force them to go out of business.

A Seoul government official said the city will crack down on the businesses for violating animal protection, food sanitation and environment laws.
