South Korea is expected to see monsoon rains on Wednesday, with strong winds and lightning forecast for parts of the nation.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast more than 120 millimeters of rain for northern parts of Gangwon Province and mountain areas of Jeju Island until Thursday, expecting torrential rains of 30 millimeters per hour.

About 30 to 80 millimeters of rain is expected from Wednesday to Thursday for the central region, northern parts of North Gyeongsang Province, southern coastal areas and Mount Jiri, with 10 to 50 millimeters for other southern regions.

Due to the rain, afternoon high temperatures are forecast to sharply drop from the previous day to 21 to 27 degrees Celsius, cooling down the early heat that had gripped the nation.
