Former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced on Sunday his candidacy for the Seoul mayoral by-election set for April.
Oh, a member of the main opposition People Power Party(PPP), declared his bid in northern Seoul, vowing to win the mayoral by-election to help the opposition party win in the 2022 presidential election.
Oh's election bid comes ten years after he stepped down as mayor. He was elected Seoul mayor in 2006 and 2010. In 2011, he staked his position on a referendum to end free lunches for all elementary and middle school students, and resigned when turnout was not high enough.
Announcing his mayoral bid, Oh said that he has blamed himself for a long time for his resignation and that he felt indebted to Seoul citizens and the party.
The former mayor said that Seoul City needs an experienced mayor like himself who can perform from the day after the election.
The number of PPP candidates for the Seoul mayoral post has now increased to ten with Oh joining the race. The party will begin to receive applications from candidates on Monday.
