A huge fire reportedly broke out at the site of the world's largest COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer in India, killing at least five.

According to NDTV and other local media, the fire occurred at a construction site of the Serum Institute of India(SII) in the western city of Pune on Thursday.

The SII is reportedly producing millions of doses of the Covishield Covid vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

A source from the SII reportedly said that the fire is not going to affect production of the COVID-19 vaccine as the fire was at a new facility under construction.

The complex where the blaze broke out is reportedly a few minutes' drive from the facility where vaccines are produced.
