The government will announce details of its inoculation program for COVID-19 on Thursday.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters on Wednesday, the government will unveil the details in a briefing at 2:10 p.m.
With vaccinations scheduled to start next month, the government is expected to unveil details on priority groups and the standard that will be applied. It is also likely to announce how it will manage any side effects that might emerge from the vaccinations.
Earlier on Monday, the Health Ministry and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency revealed an outline of the government’s inoculation program. They said the government will aim to have the vaccines administered to 70 percent of the population by September so the nation will achieve herd immunity by November.
Under that outline, medical personnel working at high-risk facilities and the elderly in nursing homes and long-term care hospitals will be vaccinated in the first quarter. In the second quarter, senior citizens aged 65 or older as well as personnel working at medical facilities and welfare facilities for the elderly will be vaccinated. In the third quarter, people with chronic diseases and adults aged between 19 and 64 will receive vaccinations.
