Gyeonggi Province will make a second round of COVID-19 relief payments to provincial residents starting next month.
On Thursday, Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung said the decision to make the payments ahead of next month's Lunar New Year holiday comes in consideration of quarantine and the economic situation as the latest wave of the epidemic has begun to slow down.
The payments of 100-thousand won per person will be made to 13-point-99 million people whose residence is registered in the province as of January 19. Some 580-thousand foreigners will also be included.
Online applications will run from February 1 to March 14. During weekdays in February, eligible recipients will have to apply under a five-day rotation system according to birth year. No such restrictions will apply during weekends and in March.
Offline applications will begin on March 1 and run until April 30 at administrative welfare centers in each jurisdiction.
The payments will be made with credit cards or provincial prepaid cards. The payments will be valid for three months after approval and will no longer be valid on June 30.
The money can only be spent at businesses in the province with annual sales of less than one billion won. Department stores, supermarkets run by conglomerates and bars and pubs are exempt.
