President Moon Jae-in has requested that efforts toward executing a fourth round of COVID-19 payouts to small business owners be expedited with a targeted start date of March.
Chairing his weekly meeting with top aides, the president asked the government to swiftly draw up a supplementary budget and seek parliamentary cooperation.
Moon said this round will be extensive in coverage to minimize blind spots and aim to support those hit by the pandemic, protect the low-income bracket and overcome the employment crisis.
Citing fourth quarter data, the president said household income increased across all income levels due to a rise in transfer income which results from aggressive government policy. He vowed to continue to strengthen fiscal measures.
The president also pledged a swift, safe and systematic process for COVID-19 vaccinations which are set to begin on Friday.
