National Security Adviser Suh Hoon says the government is working to realize its goal of completing the transfer of wartime operational control(OPCON) from Washington to Seoul as soon as possible. 

Suh made the remark during a general meeting of the National Assembly House Steering Committee on Wednesday, adding South Korean and U.S. authorities are engaged in various discussions on the matter. 

Regarding joint military exercises between the two allies for this year, he said it is difficult to conduct drills at usual levels given the emergency situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Suh said the alliance is reviewing the possibility of undertaking map exercises without actual maneuver drills, adding the size of the participants is also likely to be curtailed.
