Presidential Chief of Staff You Young-min has apologized for the controversy sparked by a senior secretary's resignation following the Justice Ministry’s reshuffle of high-ranking senior prosecutors.
You made the apology while speaking before the National Assembly House Steering Committee on Wednesday, saying it must be yet another tiring incident for the public following a host of conflicts between the Justice Ministry and the prosecution last year.
He proclaimed the case resolved after Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs Shin Hyun-soo indicated he would revert to the wishes of President Moon Jae-in, who had declined to accept the resignation letter.
Regarding the suspicion that Shin resigned because his authority was ignored in a recent reshuffle of senior prosecutors, the presidential chief of staff dismissed it as groundless speculation.
He also denied another suspicion that the reshuffle was announced before the president's approval, saying the process was per rules and that President Moon's endorsement preceded the announcement on February 7.
