The presidential office said on Thursday that President Moon Jae-in has accepted the resignation of Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs Shin Hyun-soo.
Kim Jin-kook, a senior member of the Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI), has been appointed his successor. He previously served as a presidential secretary on legal affairs under the Roh Moo-hyun administration.
The reshuffle was announced less than an hour after Moon accepted Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl’s resignation. Yoon resigned in protest of the government’s efforts to limit the prosecution’s investigative rights.
Shin, a former prosecutor, expressed his intention to step down last month amid allegations that Justice Minister Park Beom-kye appointed senior prosecutorial posts without consultation.
President Moon at first declined to receive Shin’s resignation and Shin indicated his reconsideration days later, saying he will entrust his fate to the president.
