The Myanmar branch of South Korea's Shinhan Bank has temporarily shut down after one of its workers was shot amid a wave of protests across the country over a military coup.

According to the bank on Thursday, the local employee was wounded while heading home in a company vehicle at around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, and has been hospitalized.

Since the coup on February 1, the Yangon branch has been operating under reduced business hours with most of its employees working from home while leaving a minimal number at the office.

Asked whether the wounded worker was traveling in a vehicle with the Shinhan logo, the bank said the vehicle did not have one.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, more than 500 people have been killed by Myanmar's military junta since it seized power.
