Typhoon Chanthu Approaching Jeju Island

Typhoon Chanthu is fast approaching Jeju Island and is likely to pass through the Korea Strait and make landfall in Japan by Friday evening. 

The Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) said that the typhoon is currently moving northeast in waters southeast of Jeju Island as of Friday morning. 

The storm is forecast to pass through waters south of Tsushima Island at around 3 p.m. and make landfall in the western part of Japan in the evening. 

Typhoon alerts are in place for Jeju Island, Busan and southern parts of Gyeongsang Province with the storm heading north. 

The weather agency forecast heavy downpours of 50 to 80 millimeters per hour for Jeju Island Friday morning.
