South Korea’s first-dose vaccination rate against COVID-19 has surpassed 70 percent of its population in under seven months since the nation began inoculation.

According to the state vaccination task force on Friday, 36 million and four-thousand-101 people received at least their first-shot of the COVID-19 vaccine as of 5 p.m. The figure accounts for 70-point-one percent of the nation’s population or 81-point-five percent of those aged 18 or older.

The government had aimed to reach the 70 percent target ahead of the Chuseok holiday, which officially begins on Monday. The goal was achieved three days ahead of the three-day holiday.

South Korea's COVID-19 vaccination program began on February 26. The government is seeking to fully vaccinate 70 percent of its population by late next month.
