President Moon Jae-in left for South Korea on Wednesday, local time, after wrapping up a five-day trip to the U.S. to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Upon his departure, President Moon posted on social media that he felt both the "heightened national status and heavy responsibility" of South Korea at this year's UN General Assembly.

He also explained that he repeated his call for a declaration to formally end the 1950-53 Korean War because one involving the two Koreas, U.S. and possibly China has not materialized despite an agreement between the two Koreas signed on October 4, 2007.

The president added that South Korea is making contributions to the international community through the global vaccine supply by showing tangible results with the advancement of its vaccine partnership signed with the U.S. in May.

Of K-pop legend BTS, who accompanied Moon, the president said singing “Permission to Dance” on the UN stage was historic, and that it was a chance to reaffirm South Korea's new global status.
