New COVID-19 cases registered in the 16-thousands on Tuesday amid a slowdown in the latest wave of infections.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said that 16-thousand-120 infections were reported throughout Monday, including 29 cases from overseas, bringing the country's cumulative caseload to some 30-million-279-thousand.

The daily figure rose by more than ten-thousand from the previous day due to increased testing after the weekend. However, it is approximately 35-hundred fewer from a week ago.

The number of seriously or critically ill patients rose by four from a day earlier to 293, staying below 300 for a second day.

Monday added ten deaths, raising the death toll to 33-thousand-624. The fatality rate is unchanged at zero-point-11 percent.
