Traffic Congestion Likely to Peak at 4 p.m

The nation’s highways are seeing heavy congestion as people head back home to Seoul and the capital region on the third day of the Lunar New Year holiday on Sunday.

According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 12 p.m., the estimated travel time from Busan to Seoul was eight hours and ten minutes and from Gwangju to Seoul, six hours and 50 minutes.

The estimated travel time from Daejeon to Seoul was three hours and ten minutes, and four hours from Gangneung to Seoul.

Traffic congestion is expected to peak between 4 and 5 p.m. and to ease after 2 a.m. Monday, with five-point-15 million cars likely to hit the roads nationwide on Sunday.

Traffic on the south-bound highways is also expected to be heavy until 5 p.m. before easing after 7 p.m.

Toll collection on highways will be suspended during the four-day holiday.
