Exports dropped almost eight percent in the first 20 days of February due to a decrease in the number of working days.

According to preliminary data from the Korea Customs Service on Wednesday, the country’s outbound shipments marked 30-point-seven billion U.S. dollars in the cited period, down seven-point-eight percent year-on-year.

Average daily exports, however, increased nine-point-nine percent despite the number of working days decreasing by two and a half days to 13.

Exports of semiconductors jumped 39-point-one percent on-year while shipments of automobiles and ships slipped 23-point-three percent and 16-point-eight percent, respectively.

Imports fell 19-point-two percent from the same period last year to around 31-point-nine billion dollars during the period, resulting in a trade deficit of one-point-23 billion dollars.
