Written: 2007-10-15 15:55:14Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Samsung SDI, the nation's top display maker, says it will stop producing traditional color TV picture tubes at its Hungarian affiliate.

Samsung SDI Hungary Limited said that by year's end it would halt its two production lines for cathode ray tubes (CRTs), which had produced over four million CRT units annually. The lines would be converted to produce plasma-display panel (PDP) modules.

A company official said that the Hungarian unit would import CRTs from another Samsung SDI plant in China to make color TVs.
