Domestic sales of environment-friendly sport utility vehicles(SUV) made by Hyundai and Kia have nearly doubled this year.
According to industry sources, 74-thousand-99 eco-friendly SUVs produced by the two carmakers were sold from January to August, up 81-point-four percent on-year.
Total SUV sales rose two-point-seven percent during the period while that of green vehicles jumped significantly to account for 24-point-six percent of the total, compared to just 13-point-nine last year.
Kia Motors' SUV sales actually dropped more than 13 percent in the eight months but eco-friendly SUV sales soared 43 percent.
The two firms have rolled out not only the Ioniq 5 and EV6 but also hybrids of existing models, which have boosted sales.
Ioniq 5 has been Hyundai's best-selling green SUV in Korea this year with close to 12-thousand-500 units sold. Kia's best-selling model is the Sorento Hybrid which has sold nearly 22-thousand-700 units.
