The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials(CIO) will question Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon as a suspect on Tuesday regarding favoritism allegations.

According to the CIO on Monday, it will begin questioning Cho at 9:00 a.m. in its first case since launching earlier this year.

Cho is accused of abusing power in 2018 by ordering the Seoul Education Office to hire five former teachers who were fired for their involvement in raising illegal funds during the 2008 superintendent election.

In April, the Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) filed a police investigation into the alleged violation of the law on public servants and delivered the relevant documents to the CIO.

Tuesday's questioning comes three months after the CIO booked Cho on related charges on April 28.
