North Korea is expected to hold an event celebrating the ongoing ruling Workers' Party congress, suggesting the country could soon hold a military parade.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said on Tuesday that the ruling party's central committee invited officials and persons of distinguished service, who have worked in the party, government and military for a long time, as special guests.
The news agency, however, did not elaborate on the event. Since the North has, in the past, either broadcast its military parades live or pre-recorded them on the same day, an event that reportedly took place Sunday night may have been a rehearsal.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) earlier said it detected signs of parade activity, adding it could either have been the actual parade or a rehearsal.
Pyongyang previously held a massive military parade last October marking the 75th founding anniversary of the Workers' Party, showcasing its new intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) and submarine-launched ballistic missile(SLBM).
