As a frequent live audience performer, do you stick closely to the original version or do you play with the arrangement & delivery sometimes? Your video of My Way in Italy was a good example of a cover that really had a completely new take so I wondered about your opinion on this.

In all the concerts I’ve seen, I often love the tweaks musicians evolve as they repeat songs many times, especially when it plays against the expectation of well known material. It’s familiarnew at the same time. I was really impressed with how a live band was woven into BlackPink’s songs to make a concert version because it added guitar and drum accents without washing out what was already good.

But I have noticed with KPop concerts I saw and some live stage videos, they sound perfectly like the recording except for a couple members belting out some lines occasionally. I respect the precision required to nail it each time, but it’s perhaps a little too perfectly like a CD. Voice cracks, coming in a little early or late, etc.. those all add to the richness and rawness of live shows to me personally and a little sloppiness on stage has led to some beautifully emotional renditions. I hope they don’t engineer that out with technology.
