People's Party Leadership Resigns over Election Loss

The leaders of the minor opposition People’s Party have decided to resign en masse after their candidate Ahn Cheol-soo lost in the presidential election.

Chairman Park Jie-won announced his resignation Wednesday during a disbandment ceremony for Ahn’s campaign office at the National Assembly.

Park said he is taking responsibility for the election result and proposed the rest of the leadership follow suit so their party can move forward and make a fresh start.

He also noted that the party will have to elect a new floor leader next week, when the term of the current floor leader expires.

Park offered his congratulations to President Moon Jae-in and thanked the people for voting for government change after ten years of conservative rule.
