South Koreans began to head to polling stations on Wednesday for by-elections and re-elections being held across the nation.

The elections, which will be held until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, will choose the new occupants of 30 positions, including one lawmaker and three local government heads.

The by-election to elect a lawmaker is being held in a constituency covering Sangju, Gunwi and Cheongsong in North Gyeongsang Province.

The three municipal government heads will be elected in Hanam and Pocheon, both in Gyeonggi Province, as well as Goesan County in North Chungcheong Province. The other 26 spots are reserved for municipal council members.

The National Election Commission(NEC) is running a total of 601 balloting stations for the one-day elections.
