Real Meter Poll: Moon Jae-in Leading Presidential Hopefuls with 44.8% Support

A new opinion poll finds that the presidential candidate of the main opposition Democratic Party, Moon Jae-in, has secured an approval rating of nearly 45 percent, outdoing Ahn Cheol-soo of the minor People’s Party beyond the margin of error.

In the nationwide survey of one-thousand-525 adults conducted by pollster Real Meter from Monday to Wednesday, Moon garnered support from 44-point-eight percent of the respondents, up two-point-six percentage points from last week.

Ahn came in second with an approval rating of 36-and-a-half percent, up two-point-four percentage points from last week or eight-point-three percentage points behind Moon.

Hong Joon-pyo of the conservative Liberty Korea Party secured support from eight-point-one percent of the surveyed while Sim Sang-jung of the minor progressive Justice Party grabbed support from two-point-eight percent of respondents. Yoo Seong-min of the Bareun Party saw his approval rating stand at one-point-seven percent. Hong, Sim and Yoo all saw their approval rating slide from last week.

Moon, who has been leading polls for 15 straight weeks, was found to be the most favored candidate in all regions except for Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province and by voters aged in their 40s or below.

The survey had a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus two-point-five percentage points. Other details are available at the Web site of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission. (www.nesdc.go.kr)
