42.48 Mln Eligible Voters for Pres. Election, 24% Aged 60 or Over

An estimated 42-point-48 million people are eligible to vote in South Korea's 19th presidential election on May ninth.

The Ministry of the Interior provided the figure on Friday after finalizing the electoral register. The number of eligible voters is up by around one-point-97 million from the previous presidential election in 2012.

It's also up around 380-thousand people from last year's parliamentary election.

The most noticeable change is a rise in elderly voters. People aged 60 or older make up about 24 percent of the total eligible voters.

By region, Gyeonggi Province topped the list with ten-point-two million voters, followed by Seoul with eight-point-38 million and Busan with two-point-nine million.
