Gallup Poll: Moon 38%, Ahn 20%, Hong 16%

A latest public opinion poll shows front-runner of the presidential race Moon Jae-in is maintaining his lead while Ahn Cheol-soo and Hong Joon-pyo are neck and neck within a margin of error.

Pollster Gallup Korea said Wednesday that in its latest poll conducted Monday through Tuesday on over one thousand adults, nationwide, the Democratic Party's Moon lost two percentage points from last week to 38 percent in public support.

The People's Party's Ahn Cheol-soo also lost four percentage points to 20 percent, while Hong Joon-pyo of the conservative Liberty Korea Party gained four percentage points to 16 percent.

Sim Sang-jung of the far-left Justice Party came in fourth at eight percent, one percentage point higher from last week, trailed by Yoo Seong-min of the conservative splinter Bareun Party, who gained two percentage points to six percent.

In the final survey held a week before the election, Moon Jae-in maintained his solid lead in almost all regions and age groups, excluding Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province and voters aged 60 and older.

The survey had a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points. Details on the latest poll are available on the Web site of Gallup Korea or the National Fair Election Survey Deliberation Commission(www.nesdc.go.kr).

Poll results cannot be released starting Wednesday and until 8 p.m. on Election Day, next Tuesday. However, results published through Tuesday can be quoted, while indicating the survey was conducted before Wednesday.
