Presidential Election Under Way

Anchor: South Koreans are heading to polling booths across the country on Tuesday to elect their new president. The National Election Commission has forecast that a general picture of who will be the next president will emerge between two to three a.m. Wednesday. Final results are expected at around nine a.m.

Report: Voting for the presidential election began on Tuesday morning at some 13-thousand polling booths across the nation.
 
The booths will be open from six a.m. to eight p.m. to select the new president from a total of 13 candidates.
 
The main contenders among them are Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party, Hong Joon-pyo of the Liberty Korea Party, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People's Party, Yoo Seong-min of the Bareun Party and Sim Sang-jeung of the Justice Party.
 
The number of voters has been estimated to stand at around 42-point-four million, up about two million from the last presidential election.
 
Once voting ends at eight p.m., ballot counting will begin immediately at 251 counting offices across the nation.
 
The results will be disclosed in real-time on the Web site of the National Election Commission(NEC). The NEC plans to air live the entire process of ballot counting at 17 offices.
 
The commission has predicted that a general idea of the election results will emerge between two and three a.m. Wednesday and the final winner will be confirmed at around nine a.m.
 
Shortly after the voting wraps up at eight p.m., KBS World Radio will unveil results of KBS's exit poll with SBS and MBC.
 
Also from around ten p.m. when more than five percent of the votes are expected to have been counted, KBS will operate its Decision-K analysis program to predict the election outcome.
