Moon Jae-in Sworn in as 19th S. Korean President

Moon Jae-in of the ruling Democratic Party has been sworn in as the 19th president of the Republic of Korea.

At an inauguration ceremony held at the Rotunda Hall of the National Assembly, President Moon promised to become a president who reaches out to opposition parties for dialogue and communications. The president also promised to reduce power concentrated on the president as much as possible and run key institutions of power independently from the president.

On foreign policies, he said his administration will launch sincere negotiations with the United States and China to resolve the issue surrounding the deployment of the U.S.' THAAD missile defense system.

He said he'll fly to Washington for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump shortly if necessary and to Pyongyang if conditions are right.

The president also promised to become a president for all people apparently mindful of the division and conflict displayed during the fierce presidential campaign period.
