Eligibility

  • - Foreign nationals living outside of Korea are eligible. (Naturalized Koreans and foreign nationals of Korean descent are not eligible.)
  • - Applicants must have a valid passport and be eligible for international travel.
  • - If the winner is a minor, he or she must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. KBS WORLD Radio will not be responsible for the guardian's airfare or accommodation fees.
  • - Participants residing in Europe must be 16 years of age or older, or over the minimum age set by their respective home countries.

How to Enter the Contest

Preliminaries (TOP 12)

The topic is <Discovering Korea in My Everyday Life>. The subject may be a place, a person or an object. Write a speech in Korean on the topic and film yourself giving the speech. Submit both the video and the script of your speech.

  • - Any expenses unspecified above will not be covered by KBS WORLD Radio.
  • - If the winner is a minor, he or she must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. KBS WORLD Radio will not be responsible for their airfare or accommodation fees.
  • - Notifications and announcements regarding the contests will be sent to the participants via the e-mail addresses provided by each participant. KBS WORLD Radio will not be held responsible for any miscommunication arising from the participant’s failure to check or read the e-mails.
  • - Videos submitted to the contest may be used in programs or other promotional materials produced by KBS WORLD Radio.

FAQ

Can foreign nationals residing in Korea participate in the contest?
No. Applicants must reside outside of Korea.
How will the contestants be judged?
The winners will be selected through judges' evaluations. Netizen's votes will be taken into account.
What will the contestants be judged on?
Contestants will be judged on their vocabulary, pronunciation, attitude, grammar, and the contents of the speech(creativity, relevance etc.).
Are there any documents that must be submitted by the contestant?
Contestants must submit their scripts along with the videos. The TOP 12 participants must also submit a copy of their passports.
How will the TOP 12 be notified?
Winners will be announced on our website and also individually via the e-mail address submitted by each contestant.
Are there any conditions for visiting Korea?
One must be eligible for international travel and hold a valid passport and visa (if necessary). The Korea Visit may be cancelled if these conditions are not met by the prize winner.
What kind of programs will be provided to the winners during the Korea Visit?
The Winners will get the chance to have a Korean lesson with KBS announcers, go on a Seoul City tour, and also take part in KBS WORLD Radio's special programs, among others.
Will the winners need to bring any spending money during the Korea Visit?
KBS WORLD Radio will provide the flight fare and accommodation only. The winners are expected to bring his or her own spending money needed for personal use.
What happens if a submitted video violates any copyright laws?
Any plagiarized work or work that has been awarded in other contests will be disqualified. The maker of the video will be responsible for any copyright infringement committed on and/or by the video. A video or a script submitted may be disqualified if it is suspected of copyright infringement.
