The Han River in Seoul is a playground for Seoul citizens as well as a tourist destination. Koreans were able to enjoy the Han River through the hard work and devotion poured into the river over the past half a century. Water pollution and floods were the main problems associated with the Han River and the government started taking extensive measures to address those problems in the late 1960s. Embankments were built and sewage processing plants were opened to improve the water quality. The comprehensive Han River development project helped preserve the historical and commercial significance of the Han River.
