'US Troop Pullout Could Begin Next Year'

The U.S. Ambassador to Iraq says American troops in the troubled Gulf state could begin withdrawing from as early as next year, depending on political developments and the potential improvement of Iraqi security forces.

Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told reporters at the White House Wednesday of the possibility of the troop reduction, citing the successful referendum on Iraq's new constitution and the recent strengthening of local forces.
