L.A. Times: Kimchi's Health Risks Ignored
The Los Angeles Times says criticism of the spicy fermented dish kimchi is muted in South Korea, where only the dish's benefits are stressed.
The daily's Monday edition said that though the dish has been honored as one of the world's top five healthful foods, its health risks are almost always ignored such as heavy concentration of salt and potential to cause gastric cancer.
The report said the nation's scientists publish some three-hundred new theses on the "national food" a year, with even a kimchi especially developed for astronauts recently developed.
