Japan's Ruling Party to Discuss War Shrine
Factions within Japan's Liberal Democratic Party are expected to hold talks on the controversial Yasukuni war shrine.
Japan's state-run broadcaster NHK said Monday that a recent proposal to remove the tablets of war criminals from the shrine is expected to trigger a heated dispute among party factions ahead of the September election for a new president.
Former party secretary general Makoto Koga, now the head of an association for bereaved families of Japan's war dead, recently proposed the removal of 14 Class-A war criminals from the shrine.
