10 More Defectors Waiting to Go to U.S.

Aside from the one-hundred-75 North Korean defectors who were detained by the Thai police on Tuesday, ten more North Korean defectors in Thailand are waiting to be admitted into the United States.

Reports out of Bangkok say the ten have been undergoing immigration procedures at U.S. diplomatic offices in Thailand, and the chances that Washington will accept them are high.

A government official in Seoul said the ten defectors are currently staying in safe locations and in cooperation with the U.S. authorities.

The visit to Thailand by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Ellen Sauerbrey will likely have something to do with the ten defectors.

If the ten leave for the United States, they will become the third group of North Korean defectors to arrive in Washington since the enactment in 2004 of the North Korean Human Rights Act.
