N.Korean Defector E-mails U.S. President

A North Korean defector-turned-journalist has sent an e-mail to U.S. President George Bush.

In Tuesday's e-mail, President Kim Sung-min of the Seoul-based Freedom North Korea Broadcast wrote that his meeting with President Bush at the White House in April was a message of hope to depraved North Koreans.

Kim went on to talk about the plight of North Korean defectors mentioning mass arrests in Thailand and forced repatriation by the China police.

He defended his fellow North Koreans saying that their only sin was leaving their homeland in search of food and of freedom from the dictatorship.

He stressed that the defectors are political refugees without a country to return to, with only prison camps or execution awaited them in the North.

Also, Kim invited Bush to a Korean musical performance in Washington “Yodok Story” which depicts prison camps in Stalinist North Korea.

He asked for American president’s attention to help former high-ranking North Korean official Hwang Jang-yop to visit the United States. Hwang defected to the South in 1997.
