A Hong Kong daily has reported that China plans to open a refugee camp in its border city of Dandong against a possible large-scale inflow of North Korean defectors.

The Apple Daily says that Beijing authorities have set up barbed wire fences to prevent North Korean border crossings that may increase significantly due to China's launch of sanctions on Pyongyang.

The report says China is concerned that North Koreans will go from Dandong to other cities in its northeast, citing a sharp rise in the number of North Koreans sneaking into Sinuiju from Dandong over the past few months.
