"Major Changes in US Foreign Policy Unlikely"

News2006-11-10

The U.S. State Department says Washington is not expected to see major changes in its foreign policy, with the possible exception of Iraq, following the Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections.

Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a news briefing Friday that President George W. Bush is willing to listen to people’s ideas on Iraq, adding that people have a lot of different thoughts on the issue.

However, McCormack was quick to add that he doesn't anticipate any major modifications in the course of action on North Korea, Iran or the Middle East, adding that Washington has the right approaches in place to deal with those issues.
