Bill to Ban Discriminating Against the Disabled
An opposition lawmaker has submitted a law to ban discrimination against the disabled and to provide relief for victims of discrimination.
Grand National Party lawmaker Jung Hwa-won has proposed a bill that calls for a committee under the prime minister's office that will look into such cases and wield power to enforce corrective measures.
The bill also says those who discriminate against the disabled are responsible for compensation.
Jung says the bill that bans discrimination in all areas of society is in line with the spirit of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
She pledged to pass the bill at the National Assembly extraordinary session in February.
